WHERE TO BUY

Retailers do their best to carry a wide selection of products, but they may not have everything. If you see threads, colors, or items on this site that you want, ask a needlework retailer if they can order it from us for you. Click here for our Store Locator.

Variety is what makes Rainbow Gallery your ultimate resource for beautiful, innovative, high quality threads.

With 90+ thread lines, our goal is to help make your creative projects as varied and beautiful as life itself. They can be used in all stitching and fiber art techniques, plus fly fishing, costuming, jewelry, art installations, packaging, and anywhere threads appear.

Rainbow Gallery started in 1979 and has remained an independently owned company. We searched the world for out-of-the-ordinary threads and brought them to you on convenient bobbin cards. Today, Rainbow Gallery’s threads come from mills all over the world, as well as made in our own factory in Los Angeles, California.

Creating is much more fun if you have the ideal thread for each area of your project. Your finished work will be even more beautiful. Rainbow Gallery offers you a far wider stitching palette than any other thread company. Our goal is to get the best quality and most interesting threads in your hands—and to continue to inspire you with more colors, more threads, more options.

Rainbow Gallery threads are primarily available in needlepoint and cross stitch shops (not in chain stores). Our threads are exported to 20+ other countries, giving people all over the world an opportunity to use these specialty threads. Explore our web site for the colors and textures we offer—plus how-to-use information and creative ideas—then visit the Store Locator to find a retail source. Wholesale, licensed businesses interested in becoming customers may send inquiries through our contact us page.

THE KREINIK CONNECTION

The world-renown Kreinik silk and metallic thread lines joined the Rainbow Gallery family in 2024. Textile specialists and needlework enthusiasts Jerry and Estelle Kreinik began their thread company in 1972, with son Doug Kreinik carrying it through 50+ years of inspiration, innovation, and expansion. Kreinik threads have been featured on costumes in movies, on celebrities’ clothing, in fine art installations, and in the needlepoint, samplers, cross stitches, and embroideries of stitchers everywhere. We are proud to make Kreinik now in our California factory.

Extensive color range for every design style

We have hundreds of colors in dozens of thread lines. Be bold, pick pastels, achieve antiqued effects, dig earth colors, mine jewel tones, help yourself to holographics, stitch in sampler shades. Find translucent ribbons to replicate windows and glass, capture the crystalline color of snow, and metallics that replicate wrought iron. You’ve found a gallery of rainbows, colors to match every project under the sun.

Fun textures for dimension and visual effects

Here you will find fuzzy threads, patent leather thread, metallic ribbons, velvet thread, tubular thread, high-shine gimps, bead-like yarns, mini metallic chenille, and more. The world is not flat and one-dimensional, so why should your projects be dull? Rainbow Gallery threads add texture and dimension—visual excitement—to your projects in fun and fabulous ways.

We support independent shops

We support independent stores like needlepoint, cross stitch, and quilting shops. The owners and staff go above and beyond, with classes, events, ideas, orders, and attention—creating a community space for all. If you don’t live near a shop, many do mail order, have online classes, and host retreats, so don’t hesitate to build a relationship with one of these wonderful indie shops.
