What is a compendium?
A sewing compendium is a portable, all-in-one set containing essential sewing tools such as thread, needle, thimble. It has roots in history: the term originally described multi-functional, compact sewing tools popular from the late 18th century through the Victorian era. As sewing circles became fashionable, women needed easily transportable tools. Compendium’s made of glass and decorative pewter (or silver for wealthier Victorians) offered a traveling needle-and-thread case with an elegant look for an elegant lady.
