Description

Very Velvet

Any area of a design stitched in Very Velvet will have a rich, dense, plush texture that mimics the look of real velvet fabric. You can’t achieve this effect with any other thread. Very Velvet is highly popular in needlepoint not only for stitching garments, drapery, upholstery and other real-life velvet objects, but also objects with a velvety look: animals, antlers, moss, foliage, carpets, food, even architectural elements. It offers a fun, visual texture in an easy-to-use thread (straight off the card, no need to ply).

  • 100% Nylon
  • 10 yards on a card
  • Hand washable, test first
  • Made in Italy

“Why do we love this thread so much? It’s simple! If you’re a big “Christmas Stitcher” this is a must have. Very Velvet has the most beautiful reds for Santa’s Suit on the market. Plus the soft velvety texture is the perfect fit for that area! Secondly, Velvet comes in gorgeous natural grey and browns- just perfect for Santa’s reindeer and any other animals!” — KC Needlepoint shop

Tips for needlepoint

  • This thread is thick so it gives excellent coverage in a variety of stitches on on 13- and 14-mesh needlepoint canvas
  • You can also use it in longer, less dense stitches on 18-mesh canvas (the thinner Petite Very Velvet is popular for 18-mesh)
  • Keep your tension moderate to avoid crushing or flattening the thread
  • Use shorter lengths (easier to control, reduces friction, and keeps the thread looking its best)
  • Use a tapestry or chenille needle large enough to slip through the canvas easily without scraping or stripping the velvet pile
  • A needle threader can help guide the fuzzy end through the needle eye
  • The fibers can occasionally shed or leave residue; using a slightly larger needle and shorter strands helps minimize this
  • Test colors on a scrap of canvas to check for color bleeding

Can you cross stitch with Very Velvet?

This version is a little too thick for cross stitching unless you are stitching on a large count such as 11-count Aida. However, there is a smaller version that can be used on 14-count Aida: Petite Very Velvet.
