Who was Father B?
He really was a Father: The Reverend Robert E. Blackburn Jr. (born in 1921) was an Episcopal/Anglican priest who became a legend in the needlepoint community due to his vast needlepoint knowledge that he shared by teaching, writing articles for others, and writing books. He actually ran a small needlepoint shop out of the basement of his church, selling canvases, threads, and stitching books. He was well-known for meticulously preserving long-lost historical stitches and inventing entirely new ones. His 350-page reference guide, Father B’s 21st Century Book of Stitches, was an innovative, comprehensive stitch encyclopedia when it was published in 1982. It became THE stitch book to have, and was updated several times over the years. He passed away in 2000.
