Description
Very Fine #4 Braid
Very Fine #4 Braid is the smallest (thinnest) of the Kreinik braids. These are meant to be used straight off the reel, not separated. Use it as it comes. If you need a thicker version of a color, go up a Braid size (smallest to largest: #4, #8, #12, #16, #24, #32). Very Fine #4 Braid is half the thickness of Fine #8 Braid; if you need a thicker look than #4 Braid, use #8 Braid rather than trying to stitch with two strands of #4 Braid.
Japan colors
The Japan colors are made with a strong, smooth, thin fiber called Kreinik Japan #1 tightly braided together. They have “J” in the color number. These bright, highly textured threads resemble traditional Japanese embroidery threads.
Tips
- Since the raw material is a smooth fiber, these colors may fray at the ends (the fibers don’t ‘grab’ onto each other); use FrayCheck™ or something similar if the fraying bothers you
- Due to the raw material, these are stiffer colors, so best used on larger linens or needlepoint canvases if stitching in and out of the fabric/canvas
- Use a needle with a larger eye to easily accommodate the thickness of the thread
- Use it straight from the reel; do not separate
- In needlepoint, Japan Braid colors, which resemble real metal threads, can be couched onto a design using the matching color in thin Kreinik Japan #1.
Care
Very Fine #4 Braid is hand and machine washable; tumble dry on low. Do not iron directly onto the metallic; use a press cloth. Note: some colors like red may bleed, so we recommend testing a swatch before washing your entire project.
